Michelle-Lee Young is the author of Two Trees and Twelve Fruits That Will Change Your Life Forever. She is the mother of three children, two with special needs, who continually show her the power of love and inspire her to believe in the extraordinary.
Her eldest daughter, Ashley, inspired her to write this book. Ashley loves dolphins and wrote the very first story about Rikki and Bailey. Ashley and her sister Shalah then helped Michelle-Lee turn that story into the book you see today. Michelle-Lee enjoys studying the history of Canada, homeschooling her children, camping, walking in nature, and traveling. She lives in Canada with her husband Robert, her daughters Ashley and Shalah, and her son Joshua. Their home is also shared by a cat named Tinker and a dog named Levi. |

A Story That Began in a Child’s Imagination
This is the true story of how a young girl’s imagination—and her love for dolphins—brought Rikki the Dolphin to life.
The story of The Adventures of Rikki the Dolphin began with my daughter Ashley.
Ashley was diagnosed with autism later in childhood. From a very young age, she found comfort in paper, filling pages with letters and ideas that slowly began forming stories in her imagination. What looked like random letters to others were actually the first building blocks of a creative world she was beginning to explore.
When we encouraged her to write about the things she loved, her imagination began to shine. One of the characters she created was Bailey, a curious and imaginative girl. Beside Bailey was Rikki—a dolphin inspired by Ashley’s deep love for these incredible animals.
Bringing the Story to Life
During the worldwide lockdown, when the world slowed down and families spent more time together, we decided to bring Ashley’s imaginative stories to life. It became a special family project.
Together we worked to shape her ideas into a story that others could enjoy. What began as a child’s imagination slowly grew into the book The Adventures of Rikki the Dolphin… Not an Ordinary Toy.
A Story with Heart
The Adventures of Rikki the Dolphin is more than a children’s story. It is a reminder that every child has a unique voice, imagination, and story worth sharing.
Ashley’s creativity showed us that when children are encouraged and supported, their ideas can grow into something truly meaningful.

Through the adventures of Rikki and Bailey, our hope is to inspire children to imagine, dream, and rediscover the joy of storytelling.
This journey with our daughter has taught us the importance of nurturing creativity and believing in the extraordinary potential within every child.
